Ordinary Miracles works with clients in Delaware County and the surrounding area, including Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey and Delaware, providing comprehensive support during pregnancy, labor and birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Whether you are delivering your baby in a hospital, a birth center or your own home, doula support can be integral to having the kind of birth experience you have dreamed about.
Studies show that having a doula for your birth can lower your risk of Cesarean birth, reduce the need for pain medication, and increase your overall satisfaction with your birth experience. Mothers who have doula support for their birth are more likely to successfully initiate breastfeeding, and less likely to experience postpartum depression. The tradition of having an experienced companion attend a laboring woman is as old as motherhood itself. The role of labor companion once was filled by a woman's family, or by women in her community; in modern society where family is often far away, the doula takes on this role. A doula is experienced with childbirth, and she is trained to provide information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a woman before, during, and just after the birth of her baby. A doula doesn't replace your partner; instead, she offers additional support and direction so that your partner has a better idea of how to support you, so that they can be fully present during your labor and birth and be involved in whatever way they (and you) are most comfortable with.
